As with all our sight examination equipment, we employ the latest computerised systems to examine your eyes before prescribing contact lenses. Here is a brief description of some of the apparatus we use in our consulting rooms.
A slit lamp is a special microscope used to examine the external structures of your eyes. The slit lamp is often connected to a digital camera so that images can be taken and recorded for future comparison. This system also allows you to see exactly what our optometrist sees.
Topographer
A Topographer is an instrument that allows us to create a contour map of the front of the eye. It accurately measures the radius of curvature of the central zone of your cornea. A photograph is taken and analysed by a highly sophisticated computer programme to produce a 3D map.
This instrument highlights irregularities that might influence the type of contact lenses we fit and helps us detect any corneal disease or distortion much earlier and more easily than traditional methods of examination.
Typography readings are also taken on subsequent visits to ensure that your contact lenses are not excessively distorting the cornea.
Digital Imaging
We use a digital camera to photograph your eyes, and to video eye movements e.g. blink patterns. From these images we can easily explain common problems associated with contact lens wear and demonstrate how to get round them.
These are two stunning educational software programmes that allow all common eye problems and procedures to be explained in full 3D graphic animations. Any optical questions you have can be answered with full colour images to demonstrate to point.
This is a revolutionary new vision correction therapy. The procedure uses specially designed contact lens that gently corrects vision overnight, eliminating the need for contact lenses or spectacles during the day.
Ortho K brings a modern approach to a technique known as orthokeratology. Ortho K lenses are manufactured from a special highly oxygen permeable material. When worn during the night these lenses apply a controlled shape to the cornea, eliminating short sightedness. Ortho K is ideal for low-mid shortsighted people and is a safe, comfortable, semi-permanent form of vision correction without the risks associated with surgery. We're one of the first opticians in the country to offer patients this new treatment and our eye care practitioners have undergone extensive Ortho K training.
