Eye Examination

Our fees for private eye examinations reflect the high quality of our resources, the extensive leading edge technology used by our expert optometrists, and the extended time required for the comprehensive procedures involved.

We continue to accept applications from NHS patients. However, we are keen to ensure that all patients agree to extend the scope of the NHS Sight Test to the higher standards provided by our private eye examination. Accordingly, patients eligible for NHS help with the cost of a Sight Test will be asked to pay an additional £25.68. This fee provides extra services, such as dilation or photography, which we believe are essential for a comprehensive eye examination but which are not currently included in the NHS Sight Test.

If you do not wish to take up the extended eye examination and opt only for the basic NHS Test please advise us at the time of booking the appointment .

Exemptions

Most children will not require the extended eye examination.

Certain simple examinations (such as after a cataract operation) may be adequately covered by the NHS sight test.

Patients under active hospital treatment may not require the extended examination.

Visually impaired patients seen under the local Low Vision Aid scheme may not need an extended eye examination.

Additional diagnostic procedures

Certain patients, NHS or private, may require additional diagnostic procedures or tests, which may sometimes be conducted on a different day to the eye examination. A scale of fees and charges is listed in the Fees & Charges section of this website.

Referrals and second opinions

Many of our patients are referred by their doctor or come to us for a second opinion. The NHS Sight Test is not adequate for this. We will reduce the cost of the second opinion examination by the value of an NHS Sight Test if you are eligible and a Sight Test is clinically necessary. Your optometrist will also provide a written report of their findings should this be required.

With our extended examination we undertake to treat our NHS patients to exactly the same standard as our private patients.

Please note: Images taken during the course of eye examinations may be used for audit or educational purposes. All images created in this way will be anonymised.

Private Domiciliary Visits

Due to recent changes we can no longer provide NHS domiciliary visits without an additional contract. We will, however, be able to visit you at home privately if it is impossible for you to attend our practice. An examination in your home can never be as comprehensive as one which we can perform in the practice but if you are totally housebound then it is an acceptable substitute. If finance is a consideration and you are unable to avail yourself of our service, we can refer you to a NHS domiciliary service which is based in Nottinghamshire.
